What is fever

Fever is an alteration of body temperature. When this temperature exceeds normal values, it is called Fever.

Fever is not a disease but a symptom that presents itself as particular and our body responds with a warning signal.

Having a normal temperature is very important for our body as it allows our metabolism to run at a regular pace.

A normal body temperature ranges between 36.4 and 37°C. This parameter can change during the day. Usually, in the morning we have a lower temperature which tends to rise and reaches its maximum around 6 p.m.

What are the causes of fever

Several factors determine fever, the most common ones are the attack of external pathogens, bacteria or viruses.

We can talk about Fever when the rise in temperature occurs over a prolonged period of hours or days.

In the case of women, body temperature often varies depending on hormonal factors. This is related to the menstrual cycle: starting from the ovulation phase it rises by 0.6°C and does not lower until menstruation begins.

What are the symptoms of Fever

The typical symptoms that we perceive and that make us realize we have a fever are:

• chills (especially in the early stages)
• general discomfort
• headache
• inappetence
• nausea
• muscles and joints pain
